When it comes to weddings, there's so much you need your guests to know; aside from the obvious venue and time information, it's also useful to let them know about accommodation near your venue, where they can park and leave their cars, menu choices and info on your wedding gift list.
Unless you want to send a hugely detailed wedding invitation (more like a booklet, than an invite!), the easiest way to tell your guests everything they need to know is on a wedding website.
"A website will be there no matter where the guest is, whether that's at home wondering about when the wedding will start or in the car on the way to the wedding without directions," says Vicky Welsher of wedding website company gettingmarried.co.uk.
"Paper invites can be costly and can easily be lost and can't be changed once they're sent out, but with a wbeiste you have the flexibility to add and change details as you please."
It's also a cost effective way to get your RSVPs back - no need for you to send out stamped and addressed envelopes!
Don't worry if you're not a computer wizard; wedding websites are generally simple to build, so all you need to think about is what to include on your wedding website.
What should be included on a wedding website?
A wedding website should include all the traditional information you'd include on your invites, but you have the freedom to add as much extra as you wish, including:
- Wedding date and time
- Wedding venue
- Menu choices
- Directions to the venue
- Accommodation options near the venue
- Facilities at the church / venue (ie. bathrooms, baby changing etc.)
- Gift list information
- RSVP section
- Bar info - does it take card, is there an open bar? etc.
- Travel information if you're have a city wedding where people are likely to catch public transport
- Things to do in the local area (especially relevant for destination weddings)
- A timeline of the day
You can also make it really personal, with information on how you met, a rundown of who's who in the bridal party, or even add a song request element -the world is your oyster!
When during planning should you create your wedding website?
"As soon as you've got the date and venue booked, create your website to share with guests as a save the date," advises Vicky.
"You can keep updating content as you plan more and more for your wedding, and guests will love to stay in the know."
How should guests be made aware of a wedding website?
If you're sending out paper invites, add the URL to the invite.
Otherwise, share it via email or social media, or on online wedding invites.
If you'd like to keep things private, you can add a password for guests so you can control who sees your wedding details.
