Swiss honeymoon review

Editor at Large Peta Hunt enjoys the sound of music in the Swiss Alps

Location In a lovely vintage bus from St Moritz station, we travelled 1,850 metres above sea level to the stunning Suvretta House. We were welcomed like old friends – within minutes of arrival, we were enjoying afternoon tea and soaking up the views of the breathtaking scenery.

What to see Take a tour of the surrounding area to see more stunning views,
or check out the famous Cresta Run, an impressive toboggan course which is oddly fascinating to see without snow. If you book your tours through the hotel, they’ll drop you off at your destination in a Tesla car.

THE BEST WINTER WONDERLANDS AROUND THE WORLD

What to do In winter, you can embark on the usual activities – but as we were there in summer, the ski instructors were giving sailing lessons on the nearby lake. No engines are allowed on the lake, so it was also wonderfully quiet. You can try paddleboarding, gliding, mountain biking and golf. We went at a more leisurely pace, taking the ski lift up to the mountaintop restaurant Trutz for lunch. Later, we visited the spa to indulge in an amazing Ilia facial. The therapist even included a heavenly hand, foot and neck massage.

HOW TO HAVE A STRESS-FREE HONEYMOON

What to eat The Swiss speciality of rösti and eggs is a must-have dish for breakfast. Lunch was a grand affair, with the maître d’ filleting our fish at the table. The baker gets up at 3am
to deliver batches of fresh bread, so it would be such a shame not to enjoy some. If you book dinner at the chef’s table, you get a tour of the kitchen before course after course of amazing food arrives. Away from the hotel, a journey up the mountain to the Chasellas restaurant
is worth it for the traditional – and absolutely delicious – local food, all served by atmospheric candlelight.

To book From CHF440 (approx. £325) per night half-board, suvrettahouse.ch. From a Swiss airport or border point to St Moritz, the Swiss Transfer Ticket (swisstravelsystem.co.uk, from £112) covers a return rail journey. It must be purchased before you travel to Switzerland.
