Went to TK Maxx tonight to get some new Birkenstocks, and they had loads of wedding shoes in by Pink Paradox, Benjamin Adams and Freya Rose, all priced at £16.99

Even though I have the gold New Look pair, I'm concerned they may not be quite wide enough and will dig in the side of my feet. Tried these on and they are really padded and comfy so for £16.99 I bought them and will decide which to wear nearer the time. It's so rare for high heels to fit me, and to be reasonably comfy, so I'm pleased.

I had also been thinking I might regret not having 'proper' wedding shoes as you only get the chance to wear them once! The gold shoes may become my hen do shoes 😀

Time is flying, it was 2 1/2 years until the wedding when we booked it and now it's 15 months. I think having kids and a full time job helps as I'm so busy all the time!

Anyway, proper planning has begun - I have an appointment at the bridal shop at the end of the month to show my MIL and bridesmaids my dress, and also to get their price estimate for alterations and to have a look at which veil styles go with it and finalise my choice.

Then in June we have our first planning meeting with the venue to start finalising menus, timings and arrangements.

These two things have made me very excited as it all feels a bit more real now :)

We have also done a shortlist of photographers and once we return from our holiday to Italy, will be arranging meetings with them :)

Collected my dress

So yesterday I went back to the bridal shop with my mum, MIL and one of my bridesmaid for my second appointment, to try it on with some accessories and collect my dress.

Thankfully they all love the dress (my BM would tell me if she didn't!), and MIL was so happy to have been invited as she only has boys. She kept saying "I'm so excited, I never thought I'd get to do this", bless her!

Slight annoyance though - when I called to buy the dress they told me they had found the straps and they would throw them in for me (the straps are £195 alone!). It turns out they only found one strap, so my options are that they will order me another pair for £135 as a gesture of goodwill, or I can sort them out myself.

I'm fairly short, 5ft 2", so will need the dress shortening a fair bit - I think I might ask the seamstress to make some new straps from the offcuts. This might work well too as I'd like more back coverage ideally, so hopefully they can make the straps at the back wider than the originals, or possibly add a bolero style back.

So, annoying but hopefully not a disaster!

Accessories

I tried on some veils with my dress to assess which length I wanted, and I think I've settled on fingertip length. My dress has alot of detail on the skirt and we all felt the longer veils just masked it.

Mum, MIL and bridesmaid all loved a diamante studded veil but I think I'm going to stick with just a very plain, sheer veil with no extra decoration.

Excuse my sunburnt back, only got back from Italy on Friday!

I can make simple tiaras, hair vines etc so assumed I would make my own but tried on this Ivory & Co Jacinta hairband which I love, and the light gold colour matches my dress perfectly - £105 though!

Have found a sort of similar one with matching pins on Debenhams for much less so might order them and have a look at them in real life!

I also LOVE bridal belts, so tried one on with my dress but it really doesn't suit a belt so will give them a miss.

Thanks DB - your planning thread was the first one I ever read - your venue is just stunning, and love your dress and whole wedding feel 😍

I do have a fair bit sorted in my head, but need to pay some deposits etc to actually bring those plans to fruition!

I'm glad to get an outside opinion about the veil as the whole bridal party was screaming "bling!!!" at me, but I just felt the dress has so much detail the veil needs to be plainer. I forgot to say but I tried some lace edged veils too and the lace didn't really show up against all the lace detail on the dress so I've dismissed those too. The price difference in veils is phenomenal - the plain one is £48, and the sparkly one is £95....£47 extra for about 20 sequins!

I have the one strap so hopefully the seamstress will be able to copy it and make another from all the offcuts - the dress also needs shortening, taken in at waist and bust and a bustle added....think I'm looking at £2-300 for alterations 😭😭😭

Now to find some space for it, it really is massive - couldn't resist taking it out the bag for a final peek before I put it away!

Chalkboard signs, photo frame for our DIY photobooth, 18 cream honeycomb decs for £7 a pack! Also got some multicoloured honeycomb garlands for the courtyard garden, and 10 wedding storybooks for the kid's favours for £10, thanks to the tip off by BritBird.

I've also seen a few good bits online in the Aldi wedding event but haven't bought anything yet.

All along my colour theme has been navy, gold and coral.

I now keep looking at the bright coral (1st pic) and just thinking it looks a bit too 'in your face'. It's also quite hard to find decorative bits in this colour. I do love the colour itself, just think it may be a bit much?

I'm thinking about swapping it out for this paler coral/peach colour, which just seems much easier to get hold of in terms of decorations etc, and just feels less obnoxious. OH has also said he prefers the peach colour.

Or maybe I'll just mix the two colours up to tone down the overall effect a bit!

Sod it I've decided to just do some peach bits and some coral, it will calm down the overall effect.

Have hopefully booked the photographer - got quotes in April but we had a bereavement in May so it all got put on the back burner. Anyway have emailed him tonight to say we want to proceed, just hope no one else has jumped in and booked him!

Next thing we can't make a decision on is the cake! I got some quotes from cake makers for a semi naked cake and they were wanting silly money, so I thought we'd just get an M&S or Waitrose cake.  I really want a naked cake, OH doesn't like them and wants a fondant iced cake, and now he's started throwing around the idea of a tower of Krispy Kreme doughnuts, having previously wanted a profiterole tower 😂😂 Christ knows what we'll end up with 😲😂

Does the fact that every few weeks I pop my wedding ring on for an hour or so and just generally admire it make me a complete weirdo?? 😂🙊🤣

Love this 😂😂😂

Bridezilla

Haha yes, it is sooooo sparkly! I keep it out of the way but can't resist every now and then.

I also can't stop opening my dress bag to peek at it!

Feeling quite relieved today, as we have finally booked our photographer! Hurrah!

The guy we have booked seems so lovely and friendly and has really put me at ease more than any others I've spoken to. There is another photographer whose style I actually like a tiny bit more, but when I communicated with him he was so brusque and just focused on getting us to pay a deposit, that we decided not to use him. We figured we wanted to have someone we felt comfortable around.

We have booked his basic package that gives us 4 hours of coverage, including guest's arrival, ceremony, canape & drinks reception, group & couple pics through to the speeches and cake cutting, which we will do before the wedding breakfast commences. We are going to chat to him nearer the time and decide if we want to extend the coverage at all, depending on the flow of the day and our finances nearer the time, which he is really flexible about.

I absolutely don't want someone there taking pictures while I'm getting ready as I won't be able to relax. I've been a bridesmaid a few times and there have been photographers there while I'm trying to get dressed and do make up etc. and it felt really intrusive. I also don't really see the point of pictures of my dress hanging up or my shoes sitting on a chair etc.

We want a few nice pics of our wedding, but almost everyone I know told us not to spend a fortune on photography as they have one pic on the wall and the album is stuffed in a drawer and only sees daylight about once a year! We are also doing a DIY photobooth in the evening, and most of our friends and family are people who take lots of pics, so I'm sure we'll still get lots of great pics of the evening :)

Next thing on my list was to start finding MUAs. Emailed a few this morning for quotes and so far had 2 replies saying they are already booked on my date! You really do have to book ahead for an August bank holiday wedding!

I do have a friend who is a MUA who will be invited to the wedding, but she isn't local and not sure if she'd want to come so much earlier on the day as she has kids.

Have found a MUA who is free and whose work looks good 😁 Just got to check if bridesmaids and mums are happy with her then will pay the deposit.

In other news, cake plans have changed somewhat!

I really wanted a naked or semi naked cake with gold detailing, decorated with fresh flowers. OH loves fondant icing, hates naked cakes and thinks normal wedding cakes are 'boring'. He loves the M&S Colin & Connie the Caterpillar wedding cakes but they don't feel special enough to me as we always have a Colin for birthdays. Plus I think the Connie cakes taste awful.

So a compromise has been  reached - a small 1 or 2 tier cake of my choosing atop a tower of OH's favourite Krispy Kreme doughnuts 😩😂

It actually works out an awful lot cheaper than a standard cake 👍

So it will be something like this:

Haha my OH wouldn't let me have a normal cake! Funny buggers!
