That’s an impressive DIY list! Your little boy is absolutely adorable.

I don’t think it would be weird to invite your friend. I’d perhaps pop her a message via fb saying your invite is in the post - I know we don’t see each other as much but I’d still love you to share our day. No pressure though as I know it’s a long way to come! Or something along those lines in case you think she might think it’s very out of the blue. As numbers shift you can play around with it and if your husband already has more numbers then definitely invite on your side first! Any further declines can go on an individual basis of who is closer etc.

Thanks Ashley, I think so but am obviously biased!

That's really good advice, thank you, I will do that.

Giving notice

I called today to make an appointment to give notice, as I'd heard they get quite booked up....the first Saturday appointment available was 26th January! I'm so glad I didn't leave it until next year to call now!

Invitation progress

We finally made a decision on invitations, and we aren't going to use either of the Vistaprint options! We are using a free download site for all of our wedding stationery and signage - as the signs are all going in frames they can just be printed on a normal printer, so we are just going to do the invitations to match. Got some folded invitations with envelopes in the Hobbycraft sale so going to print them on to there.

I've given OH a template of the 4 pages and he's now using his jazzy work software to turn them into a proper printable document - I wouldn't know where to start!

This is the design we have picked - not actually my fave design, but the one that matches our colours the best. I've changed all the writing to navy rather than black.

Honeymoon

I'm very excited as we have finally made some honeymoon decisions - woohoo! Getting OH to decide anything is like getting blood out of a stone so this is major progress!

We want to have a minimoon for 3 or 4 days just after the wedding, child free - we don't feel comfortable leaving our little boy for any longer as neither of our mums are getting any younger!

We get married in August, so it is school holidays and any kind of sunshine break is extortionate, so we have decided to go to Northern Ireland for a few days. We are going to visit Belfast, then do the Giant's Causeway, Carrick a Rede rope bridge etc., then drive down to Dublin for the day too. I'm quite excited as somehow I've never been to NI or Ireland! OH has, but mainly on stag dos so hasn't seen anything but pubs :)

We are then going to go on a 'familymoon' to Riviera Maya in Mexico either later in 2019 or early in 2020, depending on how much money we manage to save before then, and whether we get any cash gifts for the wedding. It will be nice to have a big family holiday, and our son starts school the following September so it's probably the last year we'll be able to afford anything too extravagant!

Your honeymoon plans sound perfect! I think it's so important to have a bit of time to yourselves straight after the wedding.

Child free mini moon sounds so fantastic!

We are going to a lodge in Scotland by ourselves (no kids) on the Monday-Friday after He wedding. I am genuinely ridiculously excited about it, so nice to have something to look forward to after the wedding too!

I would definitely recommend a bit more time! We only had til Wednesday after the wedding and wish we had longer but it worked out okay (if we’d have had a proper honeymoon we would miss my grandmas funeral).

I’m also a firm believer that you should make the wedding last as long as possible!

Well done on honeymoon decisions - we've not even started thinking about ours yet!

And that giving notice things sounds MAD! I had no idea the waits were so long! Thankfully we managed to get ours all filed with the church office after the service this morning. Going to be doing a lot of commuting to our wedding church over the coming months, and it's over an hour each way...! At least it's a lovely church, in a lovely place and everyone is super friendly, but making it to the 9:30am service means getting up at about 7:30am on a Sunday. Ouch!

And deciding on stationery is such a relief, isn't it? I was so overwhelmed by the literally unlimited number of options, so it was a big weight off my mind. We've done lots of addressing of save the dates this weekend, and I'm about to take the second batch to the post box...

That sounds amazing! I would love to chill in a lodge but OH always has to be 'doing something'  on holiday!

Yes FMT &  Sian, I think we'll need a break! The thought of getting married then going straight back to work was just too depressing 😂

I need to know a long way in advance as there are 2 other parents in my team so school hols dates go quick, plus I'll need to arrange it with our mums and childminder.

I'm still a bit disappointed we aren't having a church wedding! Glad you got yours filed.

I am relieved we have made a decision....still disappointed not to get the Best Day Ever invites though!

Lovely plans! We’ve been to Dublin lots and always had a fantastic time, a nice mix of stuff to do and just mooching around eating and drinking! It’ll be so nice to have a few days to wind down and just enjoy the novelty of being Husband and Wife before you go back to work and being Mum etc! I think having a big honeymoon to plan and look forward to will be a good way of adjusting to life without having a wedding to plan or think about too.

Bridezilla

Thanks ladies...and yes, I will definitely love having the honeymoon to look forward to once the wedding is over :)

Bought this little sign for our son to carry down the aisle

I tried spray painting some jars last weekend, and it was a disaster, I think I bought the wrong spray paint! Hoping to have a second attempt on Sunday if the weather is OK and I can get out in the garden and do it!

Then again, I'm also still in two minds about whether to go back to one centerpiece in oasis per table with a trailing garland and a small cluster of gold bottles & jars each end, rather than lots of jars....I'm having second thoughts about some of the décor as I feel it might look a bit overwhelming. Might show OH a few pics later and see what he thinks.

I've sorted the block booking at Travelodge and it was so easy and painless, I'm really pleased!

Basically you fill in the enquiry form on the Travelodge website - they then use a third party booking company who reserve the rooms and your guests book via them. The price is guaranteed and it costs us absolutely nothing - they will just release unsold rooms back to Travelodge 28 days before the wedding. We've been given a link to put on our invites, which takes guests to a personalized booking page.

So we've booked 12 rooms at a set price of £50 and will put the details in the invitations. I suspect we may actually need a few more rooms than that, but I know some of our guests will want to stay somewhere a bit flasher than a Travelodge - they can fend for themselves though!

I'm so glad Travelodge sorted you out too! I was so impressed with them. And their network is huge so hopefully this will help other people too.

Mercure have also done well for us. but the (nicer) independent hotel near our venue has been a right pain.
