Congratulations on the date. Really enjoyed reading about your planning. I'm hoping for October next year and done next to nothing.

I expect you'll be FINE! Our venue had 2 or 3 October dates still available. I'm only on a mad scramble cause I've ended up in full on summer wedding season and lots of people have already got their bookings in. The only people who've actually said no so far have been one band, so I'm probably totally over dramatizing :)

Congrats and well done! I met Fiona at the national wedding show last weekend and loved her photos!

We got permission for the balloons! SO exciting.

Found a photographer and paid the deposit (Fiona Kelly - saw her work possibly in this magazine and loved it).

Signed the venue contract and they just need to call me back to take the deposit for that.

Save the dates are with the printer.

The band I really wanted are already booked, but got another couple of enquiries out there with one due to come back this afternoon so fingers crossed.

My fiancé got overwhelmed with it all yesterday when we were in the car on quite a long drive and I was trying to get him to think about the band. I want to get everything locked down quickly so we can chill out, but he's feeling overloaded with decisions already and wants to calm things down a bit right now. I guess I have to find a balance this week...

AND the builders started this morning, so we may well get home to a hole in the back of the house! But at least we got most of the kitchen boxed up and loaded into the spare room last night so we don't have to worry too much about that any more.

Today I've got great satisfaction from ticking things of my hitched.co.uk To Do list though. Winning.

Weekend achievements...

- First batch of save the dates posted, next batch addressed and waiting to be walked round the corner to the post box in a few minutes.

- Church forms filed and deposit paid.

- Looked round the on site B&B in person, even though I'd already paid the deposit! Thankfully it's totally beautiful, and one of the departing guests from yesterday's wedding said it was fabulous too. We even started making a list of who gets to stay in it with us.

- Indicative costs received from the florist.

- Band pencilled in.

- Tentatively agreed on our Bible reading (or at least closer than we've been so far).

I'm pretty happy with that! And the fiance's gone off to stay with a friend tonight, ask him to be one of the best men (there are going to be 3 - he couldn't pick one over the others), and also talk about how he might be involved in the actual marriage service since he's a vicar AND an organist so could almost do the whole thing single-handedly!

Next stop, invites I guess... a whole minefield of wording (no children apart from immediate family, one that might be coming from Australia, and maybe one other exception whose mother has only *just* announced the pregnancy so will be teeny tiny) and an information card to draft. Not something for tonight though. That's for gin and yesterday's Strictly!

I said yes to the dress!

On the model - bleurgh, no. Hate it.

On me, a million kinds of yes! Parents approve, sister and niece approve. Winning.

It needs to be quite a lot shorter, which will take some volume out the skirt but I am THRILLED!!

Thanks all.

I am OBSESSED with the dress. So excited!

I also picked out a sparkly comb to put in when I take the veil out, but need a slightly different shaped hair do than my standard 5 second bun. At least my hairdresser has a shape to work with now.

How I found the dress...

Thanks so much for all the dress-based love. I want to wear it NOW and am going to struggle to wait 8 months! But I just thought I'd share how I found it.

In short, I didn't. The sales assistant in my local bridal shop picked it for me. She said she knew when I walked in the door, and handed it to me as her wild card. I humoured her and tried it on, and she was SPOT ON.

I figure the staff in these places see hundreds if not thousands of brides over their years. They see the successes, the failures, the special moment when you just *know*, and also what it looks like when you're in a dress that other people like but you don't. As a bride, you choose one (or maybe two, or even three...) wedding dresses in your life. That's not a whole ton of experience we bring with us.

So my biggest recommendation? Trust the professionals! (If you find one that you get on with.) And if they offer you something to try that they think you might like, at least put it on. You never know!

The band is booked!

After tracking down a band we'd heard at a couple of balls and really liked, we were super disappointed that they were rubbish at getting back to us and generally a bit unprofessional over email (and my standards are not high!). So I started looking around again... We wanted an all-male band (we just prefer the sound) who could do a decent rendition of Shut Up and Dance.

Thankfully it wasn't too hard, and we've just booked the League of Gentlemen who look ace, and have been great through the booking process. Fingers crossed they rock it on the night.

And just like that ALL the big stuff is done. We have an in-person meeting with the florist in November, but have already had a good chat on the phone so I don't see it being anything other than a confirmation type thing. It's a big relief to know most of the wedding is sorted, but I'm sad we got through so much of the planning so fast - it's only 9 weeks since we got engaged!

I bet I'm now going to obsess over tea light holders and lawn games, and spend way more than necessary just because I have the time. I know I should draft the info card for the invitations, but that seems so duuuuuull when I could be sourcing sparkly things. Oh dear. 🤦‍♀️

I have the same problem with sparkly things! So many practical things I could be getting on with, but my brain is like BUT GOLD STUFF AND GLITTER!!

You have been amazingly organised to get all the big stuff done this quickly. You're definitely allowed some time wallowing in sparkly pretty things :)

Taking mood boarding to a new level

So we're on to table decorations. We're having long tables because that's what suits the venue best, and are also having an epic suspended balloon ceiling so we don't need to go OTT on table flowers. Something like this (not sure about the tall ones yet)...

One of my sparkly things is working out what to put them in! I know the florist can provide, but that just isn't much fun. So instead of mood boarding on the computer, I hit up Ikea in person! The hours of contemplation can now start...
